Main Street still gives you that small town feeling. The street is lined with attractive historic buildings which run through the center of the city.
The Woolworth of yester years, have been replaced with an ethnic mix of food retailers. The retail environment has picked up in the recent years, though there seems to be some local concerns as to some gentrification-centric ideas once reported by the local newspapers.

House styles in Danbury are all over the map. Some of Danbury's former factory owners built large Queen Annes, Arts and Crafts and Greek Revival homes on hills overlooking the downtown, though many have been awkwardly subdivided.
There are also plenty of small Capes and split-level ranches from more recent eras. And, Danbury is home to an increasing number of town-house-style condos.
Many New Yorkers have migrated into the Danbury area. During the early 1980's, Danbury was selected as one of the best towns/cities to live in America. Quality of life, education, jobs and cost of living.
Danbury's proximity to New York City is what has fueled its growth. 50 Miles from Bronx County, 34 miles from the White Plains, New York area. Too many, newcomers - it's pure logisitics and cost.
Many people have realized that if you're going to reside and drive one hour north of New York City - What difference does it make to drive north on Interstate 684 and turn east on Interstate 84 for the last ten minute drive into Danbury, Ct. Thats the logistical part.
From a cost perspective, property taxes are much less than New York neighboring towns in Westchester or Putnam Counties.
