Buying Garden Apartment Condos Co-ops

Mortgage - Post-World War II garden apartments are still popular 50 years after many of them were built because of their convenient locations and functional designs.

Most 1950s- and 1960s-era garden apartment communities were characterized by their brick facades, columns and ornamental metal fences, low-rise profiles, and central courtyards with green surroundings. They're usually in downtown area and offer a taste of suburbia in urban settings.

Realizing their appeal, New Jersey-based Value Companies, which owns and manages 3,500 garden apartments in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, and Florida, is spending between $8,000 and $10,000 per unit to update these communities, adding new kitchen cabinets, appliances, windows, bathroom tile, and improved air conditioners.
